TODAY! Rhetoric & Social Justice w/ MD Sen. Mary Washington

Today, Dr. Earl Brooks and MD senator Mary Washington will be speaking on "Rhetoric and Social Justice." The event will be held in the AOK Library Gallery at 4:00 PM. We hope to see you there!

    Previous post:

On Tuesday, November 26 Dr. Earl Brooks will be hosting Maryland state senator Mary Washington for a discussion about "Rhetoric and Social
Justice." Just this week, Washington announced that she will be running for mayor of Baltimore. You can find a full description and the event flyer below.

If you're planning to attend, please mark "Going" on the Dresher Center's myUMBC page!

https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/dreshercenter/events/77415

For more information, please contact Dr. Earl Brooks at earlb@umbc.edu

From the Dresher Center:

State Senator Dr. Mary Washington (District 43, Baltimore City)
will join Dr. Earl Brooks, the students of ENGL 300, and the greater
UMBC community to discuss the intersection of rhetoric and social
    justice.

In 2010, Senator Washington made history when she became the first openly LGBTQ
African-American elected official in Maryland – and only the second such
state legislator in the country. In her seven-plus years in the House
of Delegates since, she has distinguished herself as a leader fighting
for affordable access to water, protecting families at risk of losing
their homes to unfair tax sales and foreclosures, making sure Baltimore
city schools get the fair and equitable funding they deserve and helping
unaccompanied homeless youth get the services and support they need.

Senator
Washington is currently a member of Women Legislators of Maryland and
the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and an Associate Member of the
Latino Legislative Caucus. She is also a part-time faculty member at the
     Maryland
Institute College of Art (MICA) and teaches public policy and sociology
     courses.

On Tuesday, November 26 Dr. Earl Brooks will be hosting Maryland state senator Mary Washington for a discussion about "Rhetoric and Social Justice." Just this week, Washington announced that she will be running for mayor of Baltimore. You can find a full description and the event flyer below.
