Organic Panic! is an interactive role-playing game that simulates the
documentary film Cafeteria Man, a documentary produced by UMBC alumnus
Richard Chisolm, Class of 1982. The film follows Tony Geraci, former
Baltimore City Public Schools Director of Food and Nutrition, in his
quest to provide nutritious food to 83,000 school children by building a
central kitchen for Baltimore kids. This story has been translated into
a role-playing game by Honors College students, first played in 2014,
and revised by Honors students every year since. INDS student Andrew Beck, who once
was an actor in the game, will summarize his analysis of the 2017 and
2019 versions of the game along with brief clips from each version, will
assess the game mechanics through frameworks by game experts McGonigal
and Osterweil, and suggest revisions to the 2020 version.

UMBC's 5th Annual ArtRising: @choicevoices on Instagram

<Tagline>Join us for a daylong event on Saturday, April 25!</Tagline>

Dear LLC Family,

This week is the Choice Program at UMBC's 5th Annual ArtRising, taking place virtually @choicevoices on instagram!

The celebration includes daily workshops and activities, both pre-recorded and live, culminating in a daylong event on Saturday, April 25th. Again, it's all @choicevoices, so make sure to follow us, participate, like, and share!!

On the 5th anniversary of the death of Freddie Gray, and always, opportunities for young people and communities to come together and share their voices and talents are imperative. We see ArtRising as a way of countering the discrimination, overpolicing, and adultification too many of our young people face. We see it as a way to directly compensate community artists--11 total for this event--a meaningful act for many during this time of crisis. And we see it as a way to bring all of our communities together, despite being socially distanced. We appreciate everyone's support and commitment to this work so much, and hope to see you online!

At this point the best way to support is through participation and helping to get the word out! Feel free to share, any questions can be directed to me, afrank3@umbc.edu

Thanks,

Frank

Below is a list of activities happening this week! I will send out more information about the day of activities when the final schedule is confirmed.

As a result of the
coronavirus (COVID-19), many colleges and universities have moved to
online-only instruction and distance learning. We know that this means
physical libraries are at limited capacity or closed entirely. We want
to do what we can to help.

To support academic libraries and their many patrons, we are providing temporary free access to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th and 7th editions), the Concise Guide to APA Style, and more than 160 other books published by APA Books through VitalSource and RedShelf.

These will be available for free to instructors and students at
participating nonprofit academic institutions affected by campus
    closures until May 25, 2020:
