The Braly Award for Poetry: "Cycling" by Harley Nguyen

Harley is a senior studying English on the Literature track. Influenced
primarily by poets of color such as Ocean Vuong and Jamila Woods, he
hopes that other readers are affected by their poetry as he has been. He
hopes to have a future in publishing, or at the very least, wherever
    writing happens.

The Braly Award for Fiction: "Whiskey and Ice" by Ivan "Blue" Perez

My name is Ivan "Blue" Perez and I am a Senior English Major with minors
in Ancient Studies and Writing. I have always loved stories in any
form, be it short stories, novels, movies, TV shows, or my personal
favorite, video games. Now that I spent my life consuming and discussing
stories, I'm ready to start sharing some of my own!

The Braly Award for Nonfiction: "The Bridge" by Clair Volkening

Clair Volkening is an English major on the Communication and Technology track. She loves books, the word “haberdashery”, and music. Although she is unsure where she will go after college, she is very excited to find out.

Integrationism and Language Ideologies

<Tagline>Virtual Free Conference - March 15 - 20, 2021</Tagline>

The annual Conference of the International Association for the
Integrational Study of Language and Communication (IAISLC) will be held
at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, March 15-20, 2021.

Dr. David Balosa (LLC '20) will be presenting on Tuesday, March 16th at 8:30 am on the topic, “Foundations in Existential
Sociolinguistics.” This will be a major presentation at the conference,
which features an international roster of presenters from Brazil, the
    US, Africa and the UK.

The main objective of the conference is to contribute to the
further development of the integrationist perspective through critical
dialogue with other approaches to language and communication. A
secondary objective is to explore the interdisciplinary applications
and implications of integrationism for diverse regions of the world,
with or without a history of colonialism.

A third objective is to explore the extent to which integrationism
can capture the multifaceted and contradictory linguistic experiences of
people on the margins of society whose communicational practices have
not so far been a focus for integrationistic thinking. In doing so, we
wish to discuss how to best create a partnership with the Global South
and with communities that were previously marginalized in the
collaborative work of building and extending the relevance and reach of
integrationism as a radically critical communicational philosophy.

The conference is transmitted live from Monday
till Saturday, March 15-20, at the youtube channel belonging to the
Language Policy group at the Federal University of Santa Catarina,
Brazil. Please see the full programme here.
