Download the attached flyer for course details. </div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><strong>GWST 381: Reproductive Justice </strong></div><div>The course investigates the histories, cultural politics, and embodied practices of human reproduction in the US using a reproductive justice framework. It examines heteropatriarchal  and white supremacist institutions and ideologies that shape American notions of appropriate family formation, national belonging, and reproductive liberty/duty. It considers the impacts of both material technologies for preventing, interrupting, and assisting procreative processes and organized advocacy for sexual and reproductive rights, health, and justice on diverse reproductive lives. <strong>Instructor: </strong>Dr. Carole McCann</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><strong>GWST 390-01: Black Girlhood</strong></div><div>An interdisciplinary examination of the history, the present, and the future of black girlhood with a focus on the US.     <div class="html-content"><p>Check out the offerings in Critical Sexuality Studies for Spring 2023 and see the attached flyer for course details!</p><p><strong>CSST 210 - Introduction to Critical Sexuality Studies</strong></p><div><span><div>This course introduces students to the field of critical sexuality studies. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the course conducts a critical inquiry into the historical precedents and theoretical frameworks necessary to understand the role of sexuality in shaping personal, social, economic, and political life. The course focuses on patterns of subordination and exclusion based on individuals sexual practices and identities, explains the origins and persistence of those patterns, and considers ways of challenging them. Throughout the course, special attention will be given to intersections of sexuality with gender, race, ethnicity, religion, class, and disability.<br><br></div><div><em>GEP: Culture, Social Sciences</em></div><div><em><br></em></div><div><strong>CSST 300 - Methodologies in Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies</strong></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div>This writing intensive seminar introduces students to the theory and practice of interdisciplinary research in the field of gender, women's, and sexuality studies. The course examines the distinguishing features of feminist methodologies that draw from the social sciences and the humanities. By reading and discussing examples of excellent and innovative research, students will become acquainted with the practical details, intellectual challenges, and the ethical dilemmas involved in doing research about women, gender, and sexuality. The course also explores the connections between research and community activism. <strong><em>**This class is cross-listed with GWST 300</em></strong></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><strong>CSST 485- Sexuality + Queer Theory</strong></div><div><br></div><div>This course is a seminar in sexuality and queer theory. The primary focus is critical engagement with social, political, and cultural theories of the social construction of sexuality and sexual identities, and of the sources, causes, and effects of sexual inequality and strategies for reducing or eradicating inequality. While emphasis will be placed on theories of sexuality, substantial time will be spent on theories of how sexuality is implicated in and supported by other forms of inequality such as gender, race, ethnicity, and class.</div><div><em><br></em></div><div><em>GEP: Arts and Humanities</em></div><div><span><br></span></div></span></div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><div>The LLC Program is pleased to announce that <strong>Jamie Gillan</strong> of Cohort 21 successfully and skillfully presented her dissertation research proposal to her committee on October 13, 2022.</div><div><br></div><div>Jamie's project is titled, <em><em>Collaborative Storywork in Higher Education. <br></em></em></div><div><br></div><div>After her presentation, Jamie had a substantive discussion with the 
    committee about the next stages of her work. Her committee agreed that 
    the project is worthy of doctoral research and helped Jamie consider

    <div class="html-content"><p>During the Winter and Summer sessions, POLI routinely offers a handful of courses, many of which we just do not have time to offer during the regular semesters. </p><h4>Some Special Topics Courses Include: </h4><p><br></p><h6><span>Poli 309 Politics and Film <br></span><span>Poli 362 Citizens and Democracy<br></span><span>Poli 371 Comparative Asian Politics <br></span><span>Poli 482 International Law </span></h6><p><br></p><h6>An important note:<strong> <span>Poli 395 National Security Policy of the United States </span></strong><span>will not be offered in Spring '23.  So Winter is your last chance to take it until next school year. </span></h6><p><br></p><p>These special sessions are an excellent and cost-effective way to move more quickly toward degree completion with some pretty fascinating classes. </p><p>Special sessions courses are shorter, and thus more intense, than a semester-length class. We do NOT recommend taking more than one in the Winter and two in the Summer sessions.</p><p><br></p><p>Winter session helps you stay on track to graduate on time, especially if you can't take 15 credits during the spring and fall semesters. Most winter session courses meet degree requirements or are general education <a href="https://live-winter-session.pantheonsite.io/courses/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">(GEP)</a> courses required for all majors.</p><p>Registration clearance is not required for winter session. <a href="https://advising.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Advising</a> is recommended, but not required.</p><p>Use <a href="http://my.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">myUMBC</a> to register for up to 4.5 credits.
