But what, if anything, is unique about the emotions of the ancient Greeks and Romans? How similar and how different from our own were their emotional landscapes? This course is an introduction to the study of emotion in the ancient world. It explores how the Greeks and Romans conceptualized, portrayed, and lived their emotions. By focusing on emotion as deeply rooted in the body, this course considers and questions the universality of human emotion. All texts will be read in translation and provided by the instructor.</div>
