<Title>Interact Dialogues Program now accepting students</Title>
<Tagline>Gain valuable skills and learn to be an inclusive leader</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>The Interact Dialogues Program is a 5-week experience designed for </span>students to learn and practice skills to become inclusive leaders and engaged community members. Interact is a space where students can develop leadership skills and cultivate a deep sense of belonging to the UMBC campus and community.</p><p><span>Students can </span><a href="https://umbc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3QWpc7MHPgycDDE" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">register here</a><span> to join. In addition to learning skills for cross cultural dialogue, students who attend 4 of 5 sessions are entered in a raffle to win prizes. </span></p><p><span>Through short sessions, you will join a small group to learn and practice the necessary skills to become inclusive leaders and engaged community members.</span></p><p><span>By completing Interact Dialogues, you will join hundreds of other students who have made the commitment to ensure UMBC is a place where all students feel that they belong.</span></p><p><span>WHAT IS DIALOGUE? Dialogue is a focused and intentional conversation where people listen deeply and share authentically.</span></p><p><span>WHEN AND WHERE CAN I PARTICIPATE? There will 5-7 small groups of up to 15 participants happening in residence halls and other locations across campus at different times.</span></p><p><span>WHAT DO I GET FOR PARTICIPATING? <Title>Job Opportunity at the Laurel Historical Society</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><strong>Visitor Services Coordinator</strong></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div>The Laurel Historical Society is seeking an individual to assist with managing the open hours at the Laurel Museum and facilitating visitor experiences on-site and online. This position requires the ability of the Coordinator to staff our open hours, Friday through Sunday, 12-4 pm, for a total of 15 hours per week. In addition to this core function, the Coordinator would be responsible for creating fliers and marketing materials, and taking the lead on social media posts, for up to an additional 15 hours per week as needed. Part of these administrative duties can be done remotely.</div><div><br></div><div>This entry-level position is ideal for an emerging museum professional, part-time student, retiree, or someone seeking part-time employment in a small museum environment. Spanish language skills are a bonus, in addition to an interest in education.</div><div><br></div><div>The primary responsibilities of this position include:</div><div><br></div><div>Visitor Services:</div><div>-responsible for the opening and closing of the Laurel Museum (using both  </div><div> key and security codes)</div><div>-coverage of the front desk and Museum Shop during the open hours</div><div>-serve as the point of contact (assess, communicate, and monitor) for the </div><div> Museum during open hours (Friday-Sunday, 12-4 pm) when other staff is off-</div><div> site.</div><div>-actively greet and orient visitors to the exhibit, history of the Museum, and/or history of Laurel</div><div>-promote the Laurel Historical Society (our programs, events, and volunteer  </div><div> opportunities, etc.) with visitors</div><div>-conduct shop sales using Square and handle cash, credit cards, and checks </div><div> (and associated paperwork)</div><div>-maintain the daily general tidiness of the exhibit, museum shop, and public </div><div> spaces</div><div>-work with staff and volunteers to maintain volunteer schedules and training </div><div> opportunities</div><div>-use Microsoft apps and online tools to create and monitor fliers and social  </div><div> media posts</div><div>-post event information to various calendar listings</div><div><br></div><div>Administrative Duties:</div><div>-monitor phone messages and emails</div><div>-support event registration and off-site events (local) as needed</div><div>-other duties as assigned by Executive Director</div><div><br></div><div>The Laurel Historical Society is a small community museum and archives with a strong volunteer </div><div>corps and active Board of Directors dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history and </div><div>cultural heritage of Laurel, Maryland.</div><div><br></div><div>The position reports directly to the Executive Director. Beyond flesh and bone, bodies are deeply social and symbolic. Bodies are used to justify stigmatization, oppression, and exclusion and differentiate "us" versus "them". They are also sites of resistance, pleasure, acceptance, and joy. This course invites you to move beyond conventional understandings of how bodies fit (and don't fit) within social worlds. Together, we will draw on sociological approaches to examine the ways bodies are represented, racialized, medicalized or considered sick, gendered, exploited, and reclaimed.</div></div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>The Interact Dialogues Program is a 5-week experience designed for </span><span>students</span><span> to learn and practice skills to become inclusive leaders
    and engaged community members. Interact is a space where students can develop
    leadership skills and cultivate a deep sense of belonging to the UMBC campus

    learning skills for cross cultural dialogue, students who attend 4 of 5
    sessions are entered in a raffle to win prizes. </span></p><p><span>Through short sessions, you will join a small group to learn and practice the necessary skills to become inclusive leaders and engaged community members.</span></p><p><span>By completing Interact Dialogues, you will join hundreds of other students who have made the commitment to ensure UMBC is a place where all students feel that they belong.</span></p><p><span>WHAT IS DIALOGUE? Dialogue is a focused and intentional conversation where people listen deeply and share authentically.</span></p><p><span>WHEN AND WHERE CAN I PARTICIPATE?     <div class="html-content"><div>Delegate Nick Allen, a newly elected Democratic state legislator from District 8 (Parkville) seeks an intern to work 2-3 days per week over the General Assembly's legislative session (January 9-April 11, 2023). </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>MGA intern stipend (which this year for <span>2 days (15-18 hours) weekly = $3,120 per session and</span> for <span>3 days (19-26 hours) weekly = $4,680 per session). I am hoping to get as many responses as possible, but would be ending the survey collection on the 23rd of December."  </div><div><br></div><h5>Boren Scholarship Information</h5><div><div>The Boren Scholarship, an initiative of the Defense Language and National Security Education Office, funds U.S. citizen undergraduates to study languages and cultures deemed critical to U.S. national security. <strong>Awards of up to $25,000 are available for programs lasting six months or longer. STEM students are eligible to apply for summer language study awards of up to $8000. </strong></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Students can apply this money for studying Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi and other Asian languages throughout the continent for summer, semester and academic year programs at universities.</strong> Special programs include the South Asian Flagship Languages Initiative for the study of Hindi/Urdu, as well as the Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative for study of Indonesian. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>You can find more information on the Boren Scholarship at <a href="https://www.borenawards.org">https://www.borenawards.org</a>. </strong>Dr. Brian Souders, UMBC's Associate Director for Global Awards in the Center for Global Engagement is happy to discuss the requirements of the scholarship with you, as well as review your essays to make a competitive application.
