Dr. Richards Celebration of Life Event at UMBC

Livestream link: https://vimeo.com/event/3008511

We feel that a fitting conclusion to our event shall be a reading of Elgar’s Nimrod, from his Enigma Variations. This work was a favorite of Dr. Richards, and one of the last works he conducted as director of the USO. It also is a beautiful message from a friend, with a rich tradition of performances honoring departed musicians. While not a performance, this reading offers us the chance to casually come together as artists and collectively share a musical offering for a friend. All current and former members of the USO, as well as any UMBC faculty or colleagues of Dr. Richards are welcome to participate. The instrumentation is full symphony orchestra with timpani and no other percussion. If you are interested in performing, please go HERE for information and links to the music.

Please visit here to learn more about his extraordinary impact on the UMBC community and other ways to join in remembering Dr. Richards.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS:13th Annual Pi Sigma Alpha Conference

<Tagline>DEADLINE EXTENDED Submit your research by March 10th</Tagline>

Dear Political Science Students,

We are set to hold our 13th undergraduate research conference for political science students on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 from 11am to 1pm! All students who have written a strong research-oriented paper for any political science course or independent study are welcome to apply.

Conference presenters usually present research that they have completed as a poster that they display on an easel to their visitors. The posters are made in Microsoft's Powerpoint. Normally, visitors study the poster for a few minutes and then interact with you about your work. It's a wonderful opportunity for you to disseminate your research and discuss your ideas to a larger audience.

Below are a few photos from previous conferences to give you an idea of what the conference would look like. In the pictures, you can see an example of a poster. Also, the UMBC Omicron Eta Pi Sigma Alpha group has received funding from the national organization of Pi Sigma Alpha to cover the costs associated with your participation in the conference, including the printing and mounting of your poster on a posterboard and lunch the day of the conference. Once we know who is participating, we will distribute information about how to make a poster in Powerpoint and if there is enough interest we will also hold a workshop.

This year, the conference will be on April 5th from 11am to 1pm on the 2nd floor of the Policy Building. If you would like to participate, please fill out this application form with your name, paper title and a brief 4-5-sentence abstract by Friday March 10th . Also, please feel free to reach out to Professor Forestiere forestie@umbc.edu or to Professor Anson at iganson@umbc.edu if you have any questions.

Please consider participating if you have a strong paper from a class or other research experience that you would like to present!
