    <div class="html-content"><div><img src="https://english.umbc.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/242/2023/03/Sally-Class-scaled.jpeg" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></div><div><br></div><div><span>Since the field of Ecocriticism extends to experiential learning and pedagogies of place, the </span>English Department's Environment and Pedagogy Initiative has funded a number of course-related outings<span>. Some result in research papers or multimedia projects exploring and theorizing contemporary issues in the </span><span>local environment. Recently, Sally Shivnan's class, </span>ENGL
     375: Imaginative Writing in the Land of Harriet Tubman's Childhood, 
    took a field trip to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on the Eastern 
    Shore.  <br></div><div><br></div><div>Students got their hands into lichen and moss and their noses 
    into the salt marsh, and they visited the museum at <span>Harriet
     Tubman Underground Railroad State Park, with its exhibits detailing how
     Tubman led other slaves on dangerous journeys through this landscape 
    many times in her quest for freedom. </span><span>The
     course will culminate in creative work informed by students' research 
    into Tubman's life, but also deeply informed by their intimate

    <div class="html-content"><div>From Spiros : </div><div><br></div><div>We are currently looking for interns for the Summer 2023 term, and would love to have candidates from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.</div><div><br></div><div>We are hoping for candidates who are at least in their sophomore year, have a strong understanding of national politics, and are interested in campaigns. <strong>This is a paid internship with a $3,000 stipend for the semester and candidates should be able to work 35 hours a week. Selection results will be emailed to applicants by <strong>Wednesday, March 29th</strong>.</div><div><br></div><div><u>Project teams will meet in person for 30 hours per week for 4 weeks during SummerSession One</u>: Monday - Friday, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm from Friday, June 2nd - Friday, June 30.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Open to <strong>all majors</strong>, this is an excellent opportunity for students in STEM fields to learn to tell effective stories and for students in social science and humanities fields to gain research and technical skills. Interdisciplinary teams will integrate narrative-based research and professional skills to create effective stories about UMBC's campus, our larger communities, and our lives. <strong>Participants receive a $3000 stipend <u>and</u> a scholarship that covers the cost of the 3-credit internship course</strong>. At the conclusion of the project, participants will receive a letter describing their contributions, which they can list on their resumes. A lot is happening on campus these days - take a look! </p><h5>NBR Fellowships</h5><p>The National Bureau for Asian Research (NBR), a think tank in DC, has fellowships available for undergraduate students interested in international affairs and Asian policy. Two programs are currently accepting applications; here is the information from NBR: <br></p><p>Applications to <strong>NBR's Undergraduate Diversity Fellowship</strong> are due by <strong>March 12, 2023</strong>. For Black and brown community college and undergraduate students interested in a career in international affairs or Asia policy, NBR offers paid four-month summer fellowships for students to expand their networks and develop skills in research, event planning, publications, and general office and project management through direct professional experience. Intersecting creative pathways, Nicole A. Martinell (Artistic Director of Deep Vision Dance Company) and Saiko Kino (Japanese dancer and choreographer) share an illuminating evening of contemporary dance works. Martinell remakes "In Faith,” a vivid, spiritual journey of friction, connection, and gratitude through the eyes of a Muslim man and a Christian woman. Kino's mesmerizing "Shizuka" revives Shizuka Gozen, a 12th-century mixed-gender dancer known for her extraordinary psychic powers and political influence. </p><p>Performances will take place Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11, at 8pm, at the Baltimore Theater Project (45 W. Award amounts range from $3000 to support summer study abroad, up to $7000 to support a full academic year. <Title>PAID NBR Undergrad Diversity Fellowship Apply by March 12th</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><br></p><h3><a href="https://nbr.applicantpro.com/jobs/2727816.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">APPLY HERE </a></h3><p>The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) Undergraduate Diversity Fellowship aims to extend paid educational, professional, and mentorship opportunities to historically underrepresented groups, such as Black and brown community college and undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of international affairs or Asia policy.</p><p>NBR acknowledges the historical exclusion and underrepresentation of minorities and Black and brown professionals within U.S. foreign policy at all levels and is committed to opening the door to minority voices and perspectives in policy. Through the Undergraduate Diversity Fellowship Program, NBR hopes to begin closing the accessibility gap in the field of International Affairs and to continue to shape the next generation of bright, diverse leaders.</p><p>Starting in May, fellows will work 5-10 hours a week remotely prior to their 10-12-week summer internship in NBR's D.C. office. Fellows will become acquainted with NBR, get to know their supervisors and other employees, set goals, and attend NBR events. This training period will allow for supervisors to provide a well-rounded mentoring experience for their fellows before their internship and afterwards. Fellows will learn about NBR and the think tank industry, be introduced to the different teams at NBR, and become familiar with NBR projects.</p></div>
