Ellington is currently completing a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies at Howard University.     <div class="html-content"><h2><strong>Currently accepting internship applications for Fall 2023 in D.C. and Timonium offices. </strong></h2><h4><strong><a href="https://ruppersberger.house.gov/services/internships" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">APPLY HERE </a></strong></h4><p>In both offices, paid and unpaid internships run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters for college students. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.</p><p><u><strong>Please note p<span><span><span><span>aid internships are only available for applicants from Maryland’s Second Congressional District. All other applicants will be considered for an unpaid position. Paid interns will be </span></span></span></span><span><span>compensated at $18/hour for up to 20 hours weekly.</span></span></strong></u></p><p>In Washington, interns' responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.</p><p>In my Maryland office, interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent case work or work on District-based projects of importance.</p><p><br></p></div>

<Title>Dr. Juan Sebasti&#225;n Delgado to join UMBC Music Faculty</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><div><em>We are delighted to introduce cellist Juan Sebastián Delgado who will join the UMBC faculty in Fall 2023 as a Faculty Fellow for Diversity in the Arts. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Delgado to UMBC!</em></div><br><div>Argentinean cellist <span><span><strong>Juan Sebasti</strong></span><span><strong>á</strong></span><span><strong>n Delgado</strong></span></span> completed Doctoral studies in performance at McGill University in Montreal focusing on contemporary music and Nuevo Tango working with Matt Haimovitz. The <em>CBC Radio Ideas</em> chose his artistic research to be featured throughout Canada and he was the featured cellist in the episode Virtuoso Brain by the TV program <em>Decouverte</em>. Active in the creation and dissemination of new works that explore the cello in innovative ways, Juan Sebastián has conducted a variety of creation projects in 27 different countries, including three cello concertos written for him; <em>Pájaro contra el borde de la noche</em> for solo cello, ensemble and electronics by Luis Naon and commissioned by Radio France, <em>Cinco Tangos Apócrifos</em> for cello and string ensemble by Jorge Bosso (2016), and <em>The Night of a Capricious Dawn</em> (2022) for cello and orchestra by Jason Noble. Founding member of the duo <strong>Stick&amp;Bow</strong> (cello&amp;marimba), together with percussionist Krystina Marcoux, their eclectic repertoire features their own original arrangements and commissioned works. To date, they have performed in some of the top music festivals across Canada as well as international tours including France (JMF 2022 and 2023), Argentina (2022), and Colombia (2023). Analekta/Outhere recording artists, they have recorded 3 albums in 3 years; <em>Resonance </em>music for marimba and cello (2019), <em>Bach's trio sonatas</em> together with renowned baroque expert, Luc Beausejour (2021), and <em>Veni, Vola, Veni</em> (2022) featuring music by Piazzolla and Beytelmann together with tango piano legend Gustavo Beytelmann (ex-pianist of Astor Piazzolla).</div></div><br></div>

<Title>AUDITION for UMBC's Jazz Groups</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><div><span>So, do you like jazz? There are currently three jazz groups at UMBC, the Jazz Ensemble, and two small groups. The audition is the same for all groups. Non-traditional instruments are welcome. Make music! Make friends! Receive course credit!</span><br><br><span>Also, we host our own jazz festival every spring. Recent guests include drummer and bandleader Jonathan Barber, saxophonist Charlie Young, latin jazz drummer Vince Cherico, drummer Allison Miller, bassist Ben Allison, trumpeter Steven Bernstein, bassist Ben Street, pianist Larry Willis, tubist/saxophonist Howard Johnson, and saxophonist George Garzone.
