RMF-DESIGNED CHP SYSTEM SAVES BOWDOIN COLLEGE MORE THAN $320,000
EPA Recognizes Bowdoin with 2015 Energy Star Combined Heat and Power Award
RMF is proud to announce that its work for Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine has received a 2015 Energy Star Combined Heat and Power (CHP) award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. As part of the college's climate action plan to become carbon neutral by 2020, RMF designed a CHP system, which generates enough steam and electricity to provide100% of the college's heating needs and 9% of its total electric consumption.
In just two years, the cogeneration plant has saved the 220-year-old college more than $320,000 in electricity costs. The system also eliminates an estimated 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year, which is equivalent to the emissions from the generation of electricity from 130 homes.
