Tom Jarboe, in his first run for county commissioner, beat Democrat Merl Evans, a longtime member of the St. Mary’s County Planning Commission, for the District 1 seat 68 percent to 32 percent. An all-Republican group of St. Mary’s County commissioners was swept into office Tuesday.
“Merl did an outstanding job. He’s a great person” Jarboe said Tuesday night. “I’m happy with the turnout. Merl and I definitely had the cleanest campaign. Neither one of us went negative, and I give him all the credit in the world.”
The newly elected commissioners will take the oath of office on Dec.1, 2014.
