Baltimore, MD (September 19, 2013) – bwtech@UMBC is pleased to announce that Advancing Synergy, LLC has been awarded first place in the Life Science category in the StartRight! Women’s Business Plan Competition.
“We are excited to have achieved this milestone and are committed more than ever to our goal of developing innovations that empower individuals and impact communities,” says Arti Patel Varanasi, PhD, MPH, CPH, President and CEO of Advancing Synergy. Dr. Varanasi has over 25 years combined experience in cancer research, public health, advocacy, capacity building and project management. She maintains closes ties to the public health, medical, technology and research communities and is a graduate of the National Science Foundation-funded ACTiVATE® program for women technology entrepreneurs.
Winners were announced at The Power Conference on August 29, 2013 at the Montgomery County Conference Center in Bethesda, MD. As a first place winner, Advancing Synergy received a cash prize of $2,500 and a nine-month package of virtual office services from Intelligent Office.
The StartRight! Women’s Business Plan Competition, founded in 2003 by Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (REDI), awards over $23,000 in cash and in-kind prizes annually. There are three prize categories: Technology, General Business, and Life Science.
David Fink, bwtech’s Life Sciences Entrepreneur in Residence, notes “We are very pleased that Dr. Varanasi and Advancing Synergy were so successful in the StartRight! Competition this year. The company has been an Affiliate of our Life Sciences Incubator for several years and actively contributes to our community of early-stage companies.”
