<Title>Cronin travels to Sapporo, Japan</Title>

    <div class="html-content">In Tom's own words 8/14/2014:<br><br>I was selected as a Fellow of the International Society for Neuroethology, a selection announced at their international convention in Sapporo, Japan two weeks ago.  This is a society devoted to the study of how neurobiology relates to behavior - circuits, sensory systems, brain function, learning, etc.  It has several hundred members and meets somewhere in the world once every two years (the next meeting will be in Montevideo, Uruguay, and the one after that probably in Brisbane, Australia).   Six fellows were announced this year.  The fellow program only began at the last meeting, where five were selected.<br><br>This is my favorite society (I have attended every meeting since the first one in 1986), so it is a very special honor to have been chosen as a Fellow.<br><br>Tom Cronin<br></div>

Peercy and Starz-Gaiano, presented their teams' work in the mini-symposium, Dynamics of Melanopsin and Collective Cell Migration: Two Collaborative Studies at the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Life Sciences bi-annual conference held this year in Charlotte, NC.  Dr. Peercy took the opportunity of the SIAMLS conference, an event generally for applied mathematicians albeit focused on biology, to invite experimental collaborators and showcase the close interdisciplinary collaborations fostered by UMBC's vision of the NSF-UBM grant.</div>
