B-Ethical to return in the fall
... but we need YOUR help.

Last year, as the new president of the Biology Council of Majors, I invited professors and graduate students to debate on whether parents should be able to choose the sex of their child and the legality of human cloning. But I realized how much effort it took to put together these events. Suffice to say, it was not a one-man job.
So this year, I put together a committee within BioCOM to get other interested students to join the army of hosting debates, which included Drew Dinsmore, Beatriz Guintu, Odilia Sendze, Sara Kifle, and Julie Norton, as well as some members from Philosophers Anonymous such as Xixi Chen and Khaled Elgendy. They helped me recruit debaters, advertise, and grow B-Ethical to do more: we had judges! We had cameras! We had pizza! We had prizes! The past year of debates have been extraordinary, crossing disciplines from computer science to political science, touching topics from animal testing to stem cell research, and it couldn't have been done without the help of every committee member.
As I graduate this May, I will pass the torch onto Sara Kifle, who is taking on the immense position of being the Bioethics Debates Committee chair. I know Sara will do an amazing job, but for her to be successful next year, she is going to need an army of students passionate about continuing to bring these debates to UMBC. If you are interested in joining this committee, please email Sara at skifle1@umbc.edu in order to get information about next year's meetings and debate planning.
