<Title>Become a Winter Orientation Advisor!</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>The Office for Academic &amp; Pre-Professional Advising has openings available for Winter Orientation Advisors! COVID hasn’t slowed us down at all, and Orientation is proceeding as usual – except 100% online. Advisors use Webex to meet with incoming students one-on-one to plan out and register for classes. No previous experience is required, and we will provide all training necessary!</div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><strong>Besides compensation, this is an excellent opportunity to gain professional and interpersonal experience.</strong> Depending on the field, your time as a student may not open you up to many client-facing interactions, and this is a pathway to gaining that experience. <Title>Together Beyond November: Post-Election Conversation</Title>

Their purpose is to help members of the UMBC community renew their connections and support each other in this challenging time. The Center for Democracy and Civic Life, Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion, and Belonging (I3B), the Counseling Center, and leading campus educators in the use of restorative practices have trained student, faculty, and staff facilitators to guide these conversations, as a part of the Cast Your Whole Vote campaign. </span></p><p><span>This is an unprecedented election year in which all of us are experiencing overlapping crises, including a global pandemic. Tensions are high even as people crave the feeling of connection. Members of our UMBC community may feel isolated, uncertain, or uncomfortable sharing their honest views.     <div class="html-content"><p><span>The </span><span><a href="https://oei.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Office of Equity and Inclusion</span></a></span><span> and the </span><span><a href="https://oei.umbc.edu/inclusion-council/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Inclusion Council</span></a></span><span> is committed to partnering with the UMBC
    community. We acknowledge that there are many faculty, staff, and student
    groups that are already doing important inclusion work in our community and
    beyond. We believe in the power of collaboration and seek to help elevate and
    provide space for the important work that is already underway. </span><span></span></p><p><span><br></span></p>
    
    <p><strong><span>The Inclusion Council is now launching working
    groups</span></strong><span> to gather
    information, develop recommendations, and propose a plan of action with respect
    to a number of issues that have been identified by our community as priorities.
    We encourage UMBC community members from a variety of backgrounds to
    participate in these working groups. <u>We specifically would like more
    graduate student representation in the working groups</u>. As a
    community, we plan to draw on the leadership and wisdom of our students,
    alumni, faculty, and staff, many of whom confront these issues every day

    Student Life (OGSL) is operated by the Graduate Student Association (GSA) to
    meet graduate students' needs as they pursue degrees at the master’s and
    doctoral levels in all disciplines at UMBC.</span></p>

    <p><u><span>The successful candidate
    MUST be eligible for Federal Work</span></u><span>-<u>Study, determined by the student’s FAFSA (must be a U.S.</u> <u>citizen

    <p><strong><span>Duties of the Community
    Liaison:</span></strong><span></span></p>

    community engagement efforts and programming.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Facilitates
    communication between GSA, OGSL, graduate students, UMBC University Committees,

    Student Organization Support</u></strong></span></p>
    
    <p><span> •Advises, trains,
    and coordinates 26-28 Graduate Student Organizations (GSOs) and approves event
    requests while supporting them in event organization, as needed.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Maintains a record of
    expenses of 26-28 Graduate Student Organizations and submits reimbursement
    requests on behalf of GSO leaders.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Completes Journal
    Entries as needed.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Receives approval from
    EAA on all student reimbursements and sends documents to accounting for final
    payment</span></p>

    <p><strong><u><span>OGSL Expectations</span></u></strong><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span> •Serves as a
    member of the OGSL and assists the OGSL &amp;amp; GSA in its mission of
    supporting and promoting graduate students.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Collegially supports
    and assists the GSA Executive Administrative Assistant, the Communications
    Manager, and the Travel &amp;amp; Research Grants Coordinator.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Collaborates with the
    OGSL team &amp;amp; GSA Executive Board to implement GSA’s mission.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Attends weekly OGSL
    team meetings, monthly Senate meetings, GSA Social.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>Hours, Graduate Student
    Week events, the Graduate Experiences, Achievements, and Research Symposium,
    and The Graduate School events. Works 20 hours per week, staffing the office.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>•Prepares monthly report
    for the Executive Councils review and places in Google</span></p>

    analytical, oral, and written communication skills required; conflict
    resolution skills desired.</span></p>

    Excel, PowerPoint, and Google applications.</span></p>

    <p><span>•Bachelor’s degree,
    full-time enrollment in a UMBC master’s or doctoral degree program, and be in

    Universities at Shady Grove, the Graduate Assistant will be responsible for providing overall
    support to the UMBC-Shady Grove administration in the areas of faculty support, student affairs,
    and student recruitment and on-boarding. <div><br></div><div><u><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</strong></u>: </div><div><u>Education/Experience</u>: Requires full-time enrollment in a degree-granting graduate program for
    Spring 2021 &amp; Fall 2021 semesters at a USM institution; Requires experience in customer service;
    Requires excellent communication skills; Requires the ability to work independently and manage
