Avatar/picture on "members" page

I see that most of us have the icon (or avatar, whatever) of a cute little doggy next to most of our names; but some of you, however, have put your own little thingy/picture/whatever up. How did you do that? I could at least upload my photo to it, or something equally nifty-looking. :)
