Message from Asian Studies Council of Majors President

<Tagline>Pizza will be served!</Tagline>

Hello Asian Studies majors and minors,

I am Julian
Tash, the current president of the Asian Studies Council of Majors (ASCOM). I
would like to encourage you to stop by our general body meeting this
week in FA 558 South (only accessible by using elevator closest to ENGR building) from noon to 1 this Friday, March 16.
I know you all are busy and probably thinking "why ASCOM?" I'll sum up
our club in three terms: community, academic opportunities, and
    professional development.

The
students attending these meetings are the people you'll see in language
class, ASIA 100, and around your other Asian studies courses. Getting to
know your classmates makes class more enjoyable and can help you in a
fix! At ASCOM, we also participate in several events, such as the
upcoming reverse career fair, that will reinforce skills you learn in
class and translate them into internships and jobs.

So, what are you waiting for? Stop by the ASCOM GBM on Friday from noon - 1!

I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

Best,

Julian Tash

ASCOM President

     Dear Students,

Our annual competition for Huayu Scholarships
to study Mandarin in Taiwan this summer is open.

The Asian
Studies program is allowed by TECRO (Taiwan Economic and Cultural
Representatives Office) to nominate two students for scholarships
to study for eight weeks in Taiwan this summer, at government-approved
language institutes or universities. This is the seventh year for us. All
of our nominated students have received scholarships
in the past. This is an excellent way to accelerate your study of
Mandarin: most students will complete an entire year's language study in
eight weeks and jump a full level when they return to UMBC.

Please go this this website for scholarship application forms:
https://taiwanscholarship.moe.gov.tw/web/scholarship.aspx

If
