<Title>FREE PIZZA - 9/27 Asian Studies Council of Majors "ASCOM"</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>UMBC Asian Studies Council of Majors (ASCOM) will participate in a video exchange collaboration with Whoval, a famous denim manufacturer located in Kurashiki, in Okayama prefecture in Japan. This project may be of interest to those in the Japanese classes at UMBC, as well as those who have an interest in Japanese business culture, or textile production. </span></p><p><br></p><p><span>First, to introduce students to the project, our team of officers will present about the process of indigo textile dyeing and the history of Kojima Jeans Street in Kurashiki. Then, through video exchange, we would ask any interested students to create follow up questions in the form of a video (either in Japanese or English) to send to Whoval.     <div class="html-content">The Asian Studies Council of Majors (ASCOM) <span>is an organization that welcomes students who are majoring or minoring in Asian Studies or related disciplines.  ASCOM helps you </span><span>to gain access to resources, opportunities, and partnerships beneficial to the study of Asia. Anyone who is interested in Asian languages or culture is also welcome to join! </span><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>We have two weekly flagship meetings. </span><span>First is our Friday General Body meetings from 12-1pm in Fine Arts 558 South, where students can learn and/or present about a topic related to Asia. Free <span>pizza</span> will be provided! <br></span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Next, we have our Language Hour meetings, which take place on Tuesdays in Sherman 007 from 6-7pm. <Title>UMBC Career and Internship Fair</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><span><strong><em>Please share with your friends!</em></strong></span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>********************************************</span></div><div>On behalf of the Career Center, I am delighted to share<span> that the </span><strong>UMBC Fall Career and Internship Fair</strong><span> will showcase 160 organizations recruiting UMBC talent from all fields of study for both </span>intern<span> and full-time positions.  This will be our largest career fair to date.</span></div><div><br></div>
        <p>The event will take place on this
     upcoming Wednesday, September 25th from 11:30am to 3:30pm at the RAC.  A
     full list of attending employers can be found here:  <a href="http://careers2.umbc.edu/calendar/fairs/fallcareerfair2019.php" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">http://careers2.umbc.edu/calendar/fairs/fallcareerfair2019.php</a><br>
          <br>Additionally, we will provide free shuttle transportation for students attending classes at Shady Grove. <br>

     event and extend an invitation to stop over to connect with our 
    employer community.  Please be sure to encourage students, alumni, and

        <p>Fall recruiting is off to a very 
    strong start.  A multitude of companies have already been to campus to 
    meet and/or interview students including Google, Microsoft, Morgan 
    Stanley, Northrop Grumman, T. Rowe Price, and ExxonMobil to name a few.<br>

    </p><p><span><a href="https://www.bttop.org/news-events/june-19-2019-bringing-theory-practice-launches-partnerships-listening-and-action" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Educators (PLACE) is a multi-campus collaborative initiative</a></span><span> of</span>
    </p><p><span>Bringing Theory to Practice (BTtoP). The project is supported by a</span>
    </p><p><span>grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to the Association of</span>
    </p><p><span>American Colleges and Universities (AAC&amp;U).</span>
    </p><p><br>
    </p><p><span>PLACE Community Fellows at UMBC will collaborate with faculty,</span>
    </p><p><span>staff and community members in Baltimore City to apply humanities</span>
    </p><p><span>methods to address community issues. In addition to developing</span>
    </p><p><span>skills in humanities methods and community development, students</span>
    </p><p><span>will earn a stipend to cover refreshments and transportation</span>
    </p><p><span>expenses during fieldwork.</span></p>
    <p><br>
    </p><p><span>The project is looking for students in the humanities or humanistic social</span>
    </p><p><span>sciences with a strong interest in community development. The ideal</span>
    </p><p><span>nominee can work well in diverse groups and in direct collaboration</span>
    </p><p><span>with community members. Since participation implies a two year</span>
    </p><p><span>commitment, nominees must be in their freshman, sophomore or junior</span>
    </p><p><span>year (or have two years left at UMBC by the start of fall 2019).</span>
    </p><p><span>Potential candidates must also have a GPA of at least</span>
