Chris Corbett will read from The Poker Bride: The First Chinese in the Wild West, which explores Chinese immigrant experience in the U.S. by probing the true story of a young woman who survived a long, challenging, remarkable life that began with being sold overseas. The Wall Street Journal says the book captures "the essence of the American experience" and Douglas Brinkley has called it "gorgeously written and brilliantly researched." Corbett, an award-winning columnist and former news editor for AP, teaches in the English Department and serves as faculty advisor for The Retriever Weekly. He will read on Tuesday March 9th at 4 pm in the Library Gallery, followed by a reception and book-signing. Presented by the English Department with support from the Dresher Center for the Humanities. For more information, go to http://thepokerbride.com.
