Hello UMBC!!
I hope everyone's summer is going well!
Summer is usually a time of enjoyment and relaxation. Besides class, that was the case for me; however, that sort of changed when I checked my Chevy Chase Bank account.
Apparently I've become a victim of credit card fraud.
Whoever this mastermind is, he/she/it (?) managed to purchase a very expensive item from the apple online store. My guess it's a mac-- oh yeah, and even worse, the delivery wasn't to my house. So i don't even get to purchase the apple items i "purchased" Lovely.
And since the purchase was made from my check card, my balance has dropped immediately, unlike with a credit card, where you can cancel transactions.
OK so I'm sure credit card fraud happens pretty often, except a couple of my friends, who also study at UMBC told me about similar situations that occurred with them.
So, i've come to a possibly too immediate decision that this criminal is at UMBC. I'm not an FBI agent, although i do love acting like one when i'm bored haha, but the fact that 2 of my friends and I have become victims in the past month is not a mere coincidence,
Thus, the purpose of this news is to find out if anyone else at umbc has become a victim and to prevent further fraudulent purchases. Maybe if we all work together, we can track this CRIMINAL down.
I'd recommend not using your check card so frequently over the summer, as anyone can become a victim. Also, please check your online bank balances frequently so you can spot faulty transactions. lastly, CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL if you notice a purchase that you did not make.
Ok, I think i'm done for now :)
Enjoy the rest of you summer and be safe!
