I've noticed sometime early this year that the Police blotter stopped showing up on the UMBC news feed. It's still in the newspaper, but who still reads that? At first I thought this was just a slight oversight with the folks who did the online news stories, possibly forgetting to add in one of the most beloved of all news articles on a regular basis. Then for some time, it still failed to show up. So now I write in regards to this disappearance of such an integral and informative part of the UMBC community.
For the three years that I have been attending UMBC as a resident student, the UMBC Police Log kept me well informed of all the important events that were happening on campus. These events ranging from theft from vehicles (where people still get their GPS/Ipods stolen out of their cars), to the legendary report of the person who reported that cookies were stolen out of their office. Not only did these reports scare me into never parking a car on campus, but also to always lock my doors to my room, even if I am inside.
All these reports of theft, attempted rape, and other crimes should still be made available on the online news feed alongside all the other news items that are made available on the my.umbc website. Of course, the police log is still presented on the UMBC Police website, but having it on the my.umbc site would still be a nice thing to have.
