How a caring community responds to red flags
New Zealand spells out effective bystander intervention in this powerful video (trigger warning - it goes right up to the line of sexual assault before offering relief)

More information about Green Dot training, our bystander information program, is also available on our website and other media throughout campus.
No one has to do everything...Everyone has to do something. Including being aware of what effective consent is, and is not, and creating a caring community that supports healthy relationships.
The next open Faculty and Staff training on the Campus Protocol will be held on April 22, 2014 at 1:00.
While the video features alcohol and intoxication, the impact of sexual assault is huge, for the victim obviously, but also for the community, beyond safety concerns. Alcohol does not cause sexual assault. The recovery arc for one night of alcohol intoxication is very different from one night of being sexually assaulted. If you have experienced sexual assault, and would like help, please reach out to campus and local resources.
Disclaimers: Reflects NZ demographics, heteronormative presentation, however UMBC responds to all reports of sexual assault, regardless of the sex, gender identity, and/or sexual orientation of the people involved.
