Where Are All Y'All on the Gender Spectrum At?
Just where ARE you going with that internet comment?
Emily Grasie is still going strong on The Brain Scoop, and she is spot-on with calling out misguided, awful, offensive, obtuse, awkward, harassing, and harmful online comments that she has faced based on her being female.
She is quick to point out the majority of her comments do not raise the concerns she elaborates on, however, the sex-based comments cast long shadows, and don't help the commenter, the recipient, or anyone else involved.
Before posting comments it's good to consider how you are adding to the conversation. If the nature of the comment would change (possibly become absurd?) if the person being addressed was a different gender...think on why it differs, and consider if or how you might be creating or perpetuating a problem, before launching a comment. We co-create our community and our culture.
