Be 1 for Change PSA and more (trigger warning)
From apps on smartphones to campus action
Be 1 For Change's Public Service Announcement from the One Love Foundation is inspirational for shattering the silence that can give relationship violence too much room to exist. It joins Circle of 6 (free) and OnWatch (free and pay versions) as smartphone apps that are designed to increase safety and awareness, provide intervention and connect with first responders as needed.
Is that all we can do? whispers Jim Belushi's spirit and a host of Ghosts of Relationship Violence Past...the fight to end relationship violence is being carried out on campus with our Voices Against Violence program in partnership with people like you. More information is available on our Relationship Violence Awareness & Prevention website, and members of our campus community are available to confidentially and quietly assist with information, referrals or action. Reporting relationship violence and sexual assault to the police is only one option that can change outcomes for students and campus members.
Reporting to University Counseling Services and University Health Services are the most confidential places for students to share their personal concerns about sexual assault or relationship violence. UMBC's Protocol spells out how the campus works with reports of relationship violence and/or sexual assault and is a resource for all faculty, staff and students to know what to say and do, who to contact, and where to go for assistance, both on- and off-campus.
Men, women, and all people on the gender identity spectrum and sexual orientation spectrum are affected by relationship and sexual violence.
We all have a role in breaking the silence, debunking myths and reducing, if not ending the violence and shaping a healthier, safer culture. Not sure where to start? You can:
Learn effective ways to speak with a victim,
Become trained in violence intervention,
Attend UHS's training on the protocol, and more. Thank you.
