myUMBC statistics, archive, search, profiles, etc.
Then who was phone?

Hello everyone,
I recently tried to find something I posted on myUMBC that same morning, only to find that my comment had been buried underneath all the spam and trolling. Then I noticed that even though we have a functional "forum" with posts, discussions, and upvotes, it's lacking in functionality - there is no dedicated search function (Google search is inconsistent), we have upvotes (or "paws", if you like) but no way to keep track of them, no user profiles, etc.
So I wrote a website that adds all of these things. If you visit http://rtsio.com/projects/myumbc/, you can:
- Search for users and look at their "profile" - avatar, post history, etc.
- Search for posts ONLY in myUMBC discussions, not across the entire umbc.edu domain
- Look at interesting statistics, such as top posters, posts, etc.
For example, here are a few interesting tidbits I extracted this morning:
There are 102,705 posts, 3,673 posters (users that have contributed at least one post), and 209,389 paws on myUMBC from September 1, 2010 to January 20, 2013.
That's an average of 27.96 posts/person, 2.038 paws/post, and 118 posts per day.
However, the top ~1% of active posters (by post count) contribute 65.3% of all posts to myUMBC. This suggests that myUMBC has a small group of very vocal posters.
The most replied thread is http://my.umbc.edu/discussions/29, with 633 posts. The most pawed thread ever is http://my.umbc.edu/discussions/6171, with 550 paws.
Erik, who is the most frequent poster with 12,899 posts, has contributed over 12.56% of all posts to the board. The second most frequent poster - Gregorio Vasquez - is nowhere near, with 4,837 posts.
I am tired of writing the word "posts" now, so if there are any questions, please consult the FAQ or email me. If this thread gets enough paws and there's an interest in the tool, I may add more features, such as sorting, monthly totals, etc.
Edit: update can be found here.
