Waitlisted for Chinese201
posted over 13 years ago
So, I took two years of Chinese at my community college that I am transferring from, and I did extremely well in them. When I registered for classes, two 201 courses were offered in the fall, one with Anna Shields, the dept head or Hui Chih Huang. Huang sounds Taiwanese to me, and my instructor for 2 years taught strict Beijing standard dialect, so I feel like I'd be less prepared for Huang's class than Shields. So, I signed up for Shields but I'm waitlisted. Should I just take Huang's or wait longer to see if I can get a spot in Shield's class? I'm not sure how classes tend to shape up right before the semesters starts here at UMBC. Is it typical to get spots in waitlisted classes? I think at least for Chinese, it would be less likely. All I know is I don't want to go another semester without taking it, it'll be really hard for me to jump back into it in the Spring. Thanks
