After two overtime periods and a penalty shootout, The UMBC Men's Soccer team has advanced to the Division I soccer equivalent of the "Final Four", the first time in UMBC History.
The UMBC Retrievers traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, a 17+ hour trip by bus, to face 11th-ranked Creighton University, in front of 2,407 attendees, as well as viewers watching from home.
After a scoreless 110 min, the Retrievers advanced into penalty shootouts, where players individually shot on opposing goalies. After 5 shots on goal each, UMBC player Kay Banjo shot the fifth penalty, bringing the penalty score to 4 for UMBC, 3 for Creighton
If you know anyone on the soccer team, congratulate them for an awesome win, as well as a fantastic season! They will be playing in Cary, North Carolina, on Friday, December 12th in the College Cup, for the first time ever. Good luck to the team!
