Worried About Housing
posted over 13 years ago
I Was Given an extension on my housing application deadline until May 16.. \
I made the deadline and submitted my housing deposit fee and such so I know i am guaranteed housing.
However I have not yet received any room-mate contact information or housing assignment... Is it normal that I Have not received my housing assignment yet?
I am a incoming freshman... I am worried that maybe the University made an error or possibly just hasnt assigned me yet...

I think housing assignments are mailed in late July or early August, but if you annoy them by calling them up until you get an answer, you can avoid miscommunications.
And don't expect your roommates to contact you. That almost never happens.
Remember these rules:
1. Face-to-face. Phone-calling is second best.
2. Go directly to the source. Go over people's heads. Speak with the person who's in charge of the person who's talking to you.
2. Go directly to the source. Go over people's heads. Speak with the person who's in charge of the person who's talking to you.
3. Repetition. Continue contact until you receive the desired results.
4. Keep records. Email is less efficient, but unless your phone records your calls, it is the only surefire way to prove that someone else owes you something if they messed up, so you don't have to pay stupid fines.
5. Keep track of correspondence directed to you. Make sure that there's no way they can point the finger at you for, say, missing responding to an email, and take money from you.
6. Take care of everything payment-related within the first week or two of school if possible. Do not miss deadlines. Why pay $200 extra if you could've gone Friday instead of Monday and not have to?
7. Be rich and/or have someone else take care of everything for you. Always preferable.
