Ancient Studies Assistant Professor Michael F. Lane wins $40,000 in Grants from the Institute of Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP)
Dr. Michael F. Lane, Assistant Professor of Ancient
Studies at UMBC, and his co-investigator, Dr. Eleni Kountouri, Director of
Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities at the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and
Sports, have been awarded $40,000 in grants from the Institute of Aegean
Prehistory (INSTAP) to conduct field work around the Kopaic Basin in central
Greece. INSTAP awarded Drs. Lane and Kountouri $20,000 for the 2017 season and
took the extraordinary measure of pledging another $20,000 for the 2018 season.
In addition to an international group of specialists, Dr. Lane will be bringing
nine UMBC undergraduates and a UMBC alumnus to assist him in his fieldwork in
summer 2017.
