Join the Women's Center in celebrating Women's History Month at a special screening of Dr. April Householder's documentary film The Brave Stepped Back: The Life and Times of Laskarina Bouboulina.

"[Laskarina] is the first woman in world naval history to have earned the title of Admiral for her command of the Spetses fleet in crucial naval battles.  Her life represents an alternative history to the masculinist and nationalistic depictions of the Greek War of Independence, as told in both Greek and philhellenic literatures."

This lecture highlights the critical importance of ancient Sogdiana at the end of the first millennium BCE in facilitating interactions between the Hellenistic world and the Qin/Han dynasties by exploring aspects of early Sogdian identity that anticipate their later role as power merchants of the Silk Road.

Join Ancient Studies in Washington D.C. on Sunday, April 14th! Led by Prof. Erika Bucciantini and Prof. Esther Read, you will start your journey at the National Museum of American History and end it (depending on the weather) at the Lincoln Memorial.

Students will meet at the bus in Lot 8 at 8:30am and will be dropped back off at Lot 8 by 5:30pm. 

Be sure to either bring a lunch or money for lunch. Students who miss the bus are responsible for their own transportation.
