There are still seats available for both the student and faculty reading of Lysistrata on Wednesday, Oct. 6th (7-9pm) in PAHB 132 and the Keynote Lecture, "Cleopatra: The Most Famous Woman of Classical Antiquity," by Dr. Duane W. Roller on Thursday, Oct. 7th (4pm) in the Library Gallery. Please email Emily Hubbard (ehubbard@umbc.edu) if you are interested in attending in person.

Aristophanes’ Lysistrata, Student and Faculty Reading of the Play

The Lysistrata is Aristophanes' best known comedy. It dramatizes how the women of Greece band together to go on a sex strike and take control of the Athenian Acropolis to achieve reconciliation between Athens and Sparta and an end to the Peloponnesian War. Welcome back to fall classes! Circumstances this semester are still quite different from what they were in previous years, but we are committed to bringing you fun events and learning experiences that anyone can participate in! While in-person events are not entirely cemented, we will continue to focus on the health and safety of our members and our campus. We plan to have both in-person, online, and hybrid style events so look out in the future for those!


What are some of the bigger events we may have this year?

  • An ancient themed D&D night

  • Cookin’ Night

  • Trivia Nights

  • And much more!


The dates for these events are still being finalized, so look out for future posts about event details. The Ancient Studies Student Council is also trying out new bi-weekly “mini” events! Every other week or so we will host a get together where we may have a movie night, a crafts night (like making votive offerings), or just chill and hang out!
