World Culture Festival

We would also like to invite you to the World Culture Festival (worldculturefest.org) which is an olympic Scale celebration of Diversity and Cultures around the world. The festival is organized by the Art of Living Foundation to be held at the National Mall in Washington D.C from September 29th to October 1st, 2023. It is expected to attract over 300,000 in-person attendees and millions of online viewers, and will feature international heads of state and over 17,000 performers representing the cultures of more than 60 countries.  At a time when our society is so divided and struggling with a mental health crisis, the World Culture Festival promises to be an epic celebration to bring us all together as “one world family.”

Dear members of the UMBC Ancient Studies Community,

It is my pleasure to invite you all once again to an end-of-year party at my house, 1 Alquin Court, Catonsville, MD 21228, on Saturday May 11, 2024 starting at 4:00 PM. Please note that this is a bit earlier than we normally hold it. I will provide nibbles, Italian sausage, salad, and some drinks. You are welcome to bring whatever salads, desserts, and drinks you would like.

Parents, spouses, partners, and children are all welcome to join us.

If you are coming, please email me (dsrose@umbc.edu) as soon as possible and indicate the number of people in your party. If you are planning to bring food (please do not feel obligated to do so), also indicate what you will be bringing. It would be most helpful if you could email this information to me by Friday, May 10.

Although humanities majors don’t generally think of government positions when they’re planning their careers, UMBC is located in a unique area that provides an unusual number of government opportunities.  That’s why we’re holding the event – to help our majors think “outside the box” when looking for jobs or thinking strategically about their careers.

Toward that end, Career Services will hold a Webex session on April 19th at noon. The purpose of the workshop is for humanities majors to learn more about how to apply to government jobs.
