Opportunity: Interact Dialogues Spring 2023
The Interact Dialogues Program is a 5-week experience designed for students to learn and practice skills to become inclusive leaders
and engaged community members. Interact is a space where students can develop
leadership skills and cultivate a deep sense of belonging to the UMBC campus
and community.
Students can register here to join. In addition to
learning skills for cross cultural dialogue, students who attend 4 of 5
sessions are entered in a raffle to win prizes.
Through short sessions, you will join a small group to learn and practice the necessary skills to become inclusive leaders and engaged community members.
By completing Interact Dialogues, you will join hundreds of other students who have made the commitment to ensure UMBC is a place where all students feel that they belong.
WHAT IS DIALOGUE? Dialogue is a focused and intentional conversation where people listen deeply and share authentically.
WHEN AND WHERE CAN I PARTICIPATE? There will 5-7 small groups of up to 15 participants happening in residence halls and other locations across campus at different times.
WHAT DO I GET FOR PARTICIPATING? New i3b swag such as a free t-shirt AND the chance to build community, develop leadership skills, and cultivate a deep sense of belonging to the UMBC campus and community.

Opportunity: McNair Scholars Program
2023 McNair Scholar Nominations
Are you interested in being nominated for the UMBC McNair Scholars Program?
The program focuses on the preparation of undergraduate students (who qualify as either low-income/first-generation college students or members of groups underrepresented in graduate education) to pursue doctoral degrees.
The program offers a number of benefits, such as summer and academic year research funding, assistance connecting with faculty research mentors, hands-on guidance and navigation through the graduate school application process, first-hand exposure to individuals who have earned Ph.D.'s in their field of study, and the opportunity to attend research conferences (fully funded).
If you are interested in being nominated, please contact the American Studies Department Chair, Tamara Bhalla (tbhalla@umbc.edu) ASAP.

The Inaugural College Cup
AMST Alumni, it's your time to shine!
The inaugural College Cup is a fun and friendly challenge between UMBC's academic colleges to reach the highest alumni participation rate amongst alumni of that college. The winning college will receive the College Cup trophy, a permanent plaque recognizing the accomplishment, and bragging rights as the college with the most alumni that give back to UMBC!
Each college is ranked by the percentage of alumni who make a donation to any area of UMBC. Every gift counts toward the participation goal, regardless of the size of the gift.

Has the change of the seasons gotten to you? When was the last time you felt a deep connection to nature?
UMBC's i3b (Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging) is facilitating a dialogue in which we will focus on rebuilding our knowledge of and capacity to ground ourselves in the natural world. We will learn about indigeneity and honoring the impact it has had in the past and continues to have-- and how we can bring this to the forefront in our own everyday lives.
Community members from all walks of life are invited to join us on Wednesday, November 30th from 4:30-6:00 PM in The Mosaic (Commons 2B23- Second Floor) for a discussion followed by an activity to connect us to the concept of indigeneity.

The Choice program, based at The Shriver Center is pleased to invite you to a book talk with Eric Jackson, servant-director of the Black Yield Institute and invited panelists on Wednesday, November 30th from 4-5:30pm in Public Policy 204. The talk will draw on themes from BoOTS: Liberation in the Masses and in the Margins, recently published by BYI. See the attached flier for more info!
