This love - He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
“The Greek construction puts some emphasis on the actuality of the gift: it is not “God loved enough to give,” but “God loved so that he gave.” His love is not a vague, sentimental feeling, but a love that costs. God gave what was most dear to him [His one and only Son].” (NICNT, 203).
God’s love is not picky. It’s not about being good or bad. God sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world, to die for the sin of the world so that the world could be forgiven. God does not want anyone to perish for He wants us to be forgiven and to have life with Him now and forever. It doesn’t matter who - every person needs this love. God’s love is not blind. His love sees us just as we are - and every secret that those closest to us don’t even know. God’s love is purposeful beyond our imagination because it is about His story. This love says that we don’t have to wonder and wander through life because this love has the best plan for us. This love wounds our hearts and challenges, “who has your heart?” (Romans 12) because we were designed to worship and to love.
Today, do you know this saving love whose wound brings the eternal healing that we really need? Spend time today in prayer as you consider that God so loved, that He gave his one and only son.
