Philippians 2:3-8 (NIV) - ”Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death-
even death on a cross!”
James 3:13 (NIV) - “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.”
Service is NOT about us. It’s about serving God. Everything we have - our gifts, talents, ability, strength - all of it is to be used to serve His purposes and to build His church. We serve NOT to elevate our talents, out of selfish ambition, nor to fulfill our need to do something and to have a role or a position. It’s all about Jesus. Let’s have the same mindset as Christ Jesus our Lord. Let’s fix our eyes on Him! Through the work of the Holy Spirit, with the wisdom that comes from knowing who God is, His word and His ways, we can learn to make even practical decisions not according to the worldly wisdom but in ways that will benefit, serve the church and glorify God.
Let’s pray for this wisdom and humility of Christ.
