Hebrews 12:1-3
1And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Reflection
Was Jesus happy about the cross? Did he enjoy the pain? Often times we want to translate joy as happy and pleasurable. But as we read the joy that was set before Jesus, he endured the cross, we realize that joy is not based on situations or circumstances. It is not referring to an emotion. Instead, the joy that was set before Jesus was to do the Father’s will. It is the joy of rescuing and setting His people free.
Responding to the Transmission
Let’s pray that we would have this kind of joy of living for the awesomeness of God. May we know Jesus’ joy by doing the Father’s will and not grow weary or lose heart. May we fix our eyes on Jesus and find joy doing God’s will. Let’s pray that our church would draw near to Jesus and that we would be a church of joy as we present our lives to be used in awesome ways for the Lord.
