Philippians 1:9-10 (NIV) - “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.”
These two verses comprise the very first memory verses I learned in my college small group. It was stressed to me the importance of reading, learning and applying God’s word into my life. As a young person still in my teens, it’s amazing to think how mature and all-knowing I thought I was, but looking at Scripture, it revealed how little I knew and how small and lost of a person I was. But being in small group throughout college, these verses became an experienced reality in my life as I saw transformation happening.
Week by week we may come in and out of our small group meeting times and wonder what was gained, what was received, what happened to me in that hour or so? It’s like how we physically grew day after day but didn’t notice the increase in centimeters, maybe took more notice of the inches, but we surely recognized the difference in feet. Each week we meet, our love is abounding in real knowledge, we are growing in the ability to discern what is best, and we’re living getting ready for that day of Christ. May each gathering be a celebration of the growth we are experiencing - we don’t need to see it to know it’s happening - the Bible tells me so.
Response: Let’s thank God as we consider the centimeters, the inches, the feet we have grown by since joining small group. Let’s pray for the next small group meeting we will be having, that we would grow even more as we engage in that time. You can also worship with “O Taste and See.”
