Revelation 21:1-4 (NIV) - Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Philippians 1:9-11 (NIV) - “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ-to the glory and praise of God.”
We know the certainty of our inheritance in Christ that awaits us and we can experience the foretaste of the victory that is ours in Christ here and now. As we approach the end of the week, perhaps we are tired and weary from work, school, facing conflicts within and with others, sickness, etc. As we go through the week, we are faced with the reality that living in this world is not easy. We want to give up at times, and we want to shrink back. Let’s remember to draw near to God in worship, prayer and together with the church trust in His word and live out our faith in Christ.
When we lose sight and get disoriented, let’s look again to the Lord and fix our eyes upon Him. Remember the reality of our inheritance in Christ and the eternal life that awaits us. The certainty of our inheritance in Christ gives us the confidence and the boldness to live out our faith today. Remember God is with us and the Holy Spirit is alive in us. Let the ultimate day of Christ shed light on today, this day and let’s live our lives in light of that day with faith.
