1 John 3:1 (NIV) - “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”
“Lavish” is not a common word for our every day language. But, in its usage here in this verse, it does help us to understand how God has loved us. He abundantly and generously poured out his love on us. He did not hold anything back in his love toward us. It is like buckets of water being poured over us where there is not one area on us that is not drenched with water. That is how much we have been loved and are completely covered and saturated by God’s love. We are not lacking in love, and his love through Christ was fully and completely sufficient to reconcile us back to him that we can be called his children. We have assurance and security in who we are and how we are to live.
How great is his love for us! Today, let’s begin anew in how we have been so loved by God. As we thank the Lord for his lavishing love, may we also be assured of how we are not lacking in any way and how we can live in the security as his dearly loved children.
