2 Corinthians 4:5-7 (NIV) - “For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”
In 2 Corinthians 3:18 it says, “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” What is that glory we behold, it is ‘God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.’ We see Jesus with the ‘eyes of our heart’ and we are saved and transformed. It is not our strength and ability, our imagination or dreaming that brings about change in our lives; it is the power of the Holy Spirit revealing to us God’s glory in Jesus and that he has done and won for us.
This is the treasure we carry around for all to see. Fragile in our ways, like clay pots that can be so easily broken, yet revealing something so wonderful for all to see. It is Jesus, the glory of God being revealed in and through our lives. As we spend time in God’s Word, we are not just transformed, we are filled with God’s glory for all to see and believe.
Today, let’s spend time reading the passage from this week, being washed and changed. And then let us pray that this treasure in jars of clay (our lives and love) will show to those around us, that this Divine reality we have experienced and are expressing is because of the all-surpassing power of God. May that power touch those near to us as we love them and pray for them today.
