Psalm 27:4- “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.”
Our days are filled with things to do, places to go and people to meet. Most of us multitask every day. Although our list of to do’s may require us to be at different places and perform various tasks, as believers, our identity is rooted in worshipping the One who loved us and gave himself for us. In this psalm, David expresses his heart’s one desire, an all-consuming passion to dwell in the presence of God. To search for our significance or identity in other ambitions and pursuits will leave us empty. Let’s not give our hearts to the worthless things of this world.
I wanted to share one of my favorite songs, which I found myself humming throughout the day recently. It’s a very old song. I love how the lyrics are simple and clear.
“One Pure And Holy Passion” (Mark Altrogge)
Give me one pure and holy passion.
Give me one magnificent obsession.
Jesus, give me one glorious ambition for my life:
To know and follow hard after You.
To know and follow hard after You,
To grow as Your disciple in the Truth,
This world is empty, pale, and poor
Compared to knowing You my Lord.
Lead me on, and I will run after You
God is to be our magnificent obsession! Let’s run after God by keeping our eyes Him and Him alone. I encourage you to read out loud the entire Psalm 27 today and ask the Lord to fill you with one pure and holy passion for Him.
