When Nehemiah prays “who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments”, he is stating the unshakable reality with which he approached the Lord in prayer. The issue with prayer is that we can approach the Lord with our shakable realities, such as our doubts, fears, and disappointments. However, the Lord always deals with us according to His unshakable reality, which is to keep His covenant of love with us. Hence, though we might fall away and become unfaithful, the Lord will always be faithful to his covenant of love! Therefore, when we are faced with heart-wrenching news, that is not the time to spill out our faithlessness, our doubts, and say things that are not in line with who God is. When we pray it is important that we do not doubt or say prayers that question God’s goodness, God’s power, and God’s love and faithfulness to His covenant! Rather, our prayers are to be completely dependent upon God’s goodness, God’s power, and God’s faithful love in his covenant towards us!
Today, are you faced with some heart-wrenching and difficult news? This is who God is-the Great and Awesome God! He will always keep his covenant of Love, and that is the unshakable reality that our prayers are to be dependent upon.
