Romans 10:8-10 (NIV) - “But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
With clarity and joy, Paul explains that all this of Deuteronomy 30:11-14 was fulfilled completely in our lives when we believed in Jesus. We declared this truth - “Jesus is Lord” - while believing in, welcoming, trusting in Him - and this promise, “You will be saved,” was also fulfilled in our lives.
When we don’t know what word to speak over our own hearts and lives, we can return to this one we first spoke in saving faith. Let’s do so today, proclaiming aloud, “Jesus is Lord.” Proclaim it in your life, in your emotions and thoughts, in your current situation, in your relationships, for your today and for your tomorrow.
Paul’s joy at this promise fulfilled in Jesus didn’t rest or stay there, but he continues:
Romans 10:12-15 (NIV) - “12…the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.‘ 14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’”
Do you hear that? (If not, then maybe you forgot to read this passage aloud. ) - “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” There is a yearning and response to this truth, for God to send His people to bring this good news to others - that they too may call on the name of the Lord and be saved.
Let’s declare aloud verses 12-13, and let’s pray for our ministries and churches, one by one, that God will use us, send us, where we are to bring the good news.
