Deuteronomy 30:11-14 (NIV) - “Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.”
What God says here - to the people of Israel of old - and to us today - is completely contrary to how we often feel, isn’t it? It so often seems to us that God far away, as far as the sun and stars in heaven. And it seems that knowing His heart and ways, much less obeying them, is a journey, with uncertain success, that only few can even dream to undertake.
But in His great love for His people, God promises and provides something completely contrary. ”No,” He says, “the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.”
Let us receive this truth again, thanking God that this is the kind of God He is, and exercising the truth of this promise - by taking this passage into our hearts and speaking it over our lives and our church today. Spend some time memorizing and declaring this passage to yourself today. Then, take this word that is near to you, and proclaim it to someone that you love.
