Psalm 42:1-2 (NIV) - “As the deer pants for streams of water,so my soul pants for you, my God.My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.When can I go and meet with God?”
Psalm 63:2-5 (NIV) - “I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.”
In New York City, where I live, walking is my mode of transportation. I am often trying to walk as fast as I can to get to where I need to go. After running errands, going here and there, often I forget to drink. And then I realize my lips are dry and my throat feels closed up. I begin to feel a headache coming on and I realize I NEED water! It’s time to drink. Water never tasted so good! We all can identify with this because we have all experienced thirst.
Have you experienced your soul thirsting for God like a deer panting for streams of water? Have you recognized your need for God where you know nothing else but His presence will do?
It is a blessing to recognize our need for God, and to thirst after God. Water will quench our physical thirst. God alone can quench our soul’s thirst because we have been created to be in relationship with Him. As we go about our days at work, at school, at home, etc., as we experience this thirst for God, let’s take time to go and meet with God. Take a moment to behold His power and His glory! Praise Him and sing to Him and let’s expect to be fully satisfied as with the richest of food.
