Isaiah 55:3, 6-9 - ”Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live…Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. ‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’”
1 Corinthians 2:2 - “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”
We are invited to come and freely receive the thoughts and ways of God, which are so much higher than ours. The invitation is beautiful and compelling; the words stir our hearts and imaginations for what could be. But there is a “catch.” If we want to receive from the Lord what truly satisfies, if we want to live in the thoughts, emotions, and perceptions of God, we must leave behind our ways and our thoughts. If we want to be used in another’s life that they may hear this invitation and respond to the Spirit of God, we must resolve to “know nothing else” while we are with them “except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”
Response:Today, let’s give ear and come to God; let’s listen to Him. What ways of thinking, perceiving, feeling is He putting His finger on today? Let’s forsake them and turn to the Lord. He will have mercy on us and teach us His ways by His Spirit.
If God has given you a desire for another to know Jesus, let’s resolve to know nothing while we are with them, while we are praying for them, etc., except Jesus and Him crucified. For that, we need new mercies and for God to reveal Jesus to us again and again, so let us ask and be taught by Him today.
Let’s also pray for our churches, that there will be much abandoning of the old wisdom and ways, and that we may receive and proclaim the wisdom and power of God.
