Isaiah 52:7-10 (NIV)
7 How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”
8 Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices;
together they shout for joy.
When the LORD returns to Zion,
they will see it with their own eyes.
9 Burst into songs of joy together,
you ruins of Jerusalem,
for the LORD has comforted his people,
he has redeemed Jerusalem.
10 The LORD will lay bare his holy arm
in the sight of all the nations,
and all the ends of the earth will see
the salvation of our God.
Reflection:
In the summertime, we may find ourselves walking around more and more with our bare feet - whether in our sandals, around the house, or on white sandy beaches. But if you really look at the physical appearance of our feet, are they really beautiful? In fact, many may agree that they are somewhat odd looking. Some have scrubbed their calluses and painted their toenails with various colors to make them look more attractive, but in the end they still look like feet. Here in this passage God is not talking about the physical beauty of the feet but about those whose feet are following in step with God’s heart for the lost; these feet that bring the good news are seen as beautiful!
Responding to Transmission:
The good news is that God has brought redemption to all. He has rolled up His sleeves, intervened into history, and has entered into our lives to bring salvation. God continues to intervene in our lives, so let’s reflect upon how we have been walking through our life journey. Let’s ask God to give us His heart for the lost and to make our feet beautiful by leading us to people and places with the good news of His salvation.
