FDC New Adjunct Faculty Welcome: Engaging Students
Hear from the adjunct panel and discuss student engagement!
The Faculty Development Center (FDC) invites all adjunct faculty to attend a special program. New Adjunct Faculty Welcome: Engaging Students will be held on Wednesday, January 24 from 4-5 p.m. online via WebEx. This program is specifically designed to welcome new adjuncts to UMBC and connect them to colleagues. All faculty are invited to join us to welcome our new adjuncts, hear from our adjunct panel, and discuss student engagement.
The program will begin with remarks, tips, and advice for new adjuncts from former new adjuncts who will share how they engage students and plan and manage teaching responsibilities with other activities. We will then open the discussion to provide opportunities for attendees to share thoughts on structuring student interactions, teaching for inclusion, and conveying caring support in your course. Panelists include Jennifer Kelly (ECON), JoAnn Klinedinst (DPS: Health IT), and Joseph Washington (ENME).

Center for Global Engagement International Education Week!
Join us for this special session!
The Center for Global Engagement is planning the
International Education Week from November 10 to 17. A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education, International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity for our campus to celebrate international education in all its forms: curricular, extracurricular, formal, non-formal and everything in between. Every year, we invite faculty, staff, students and the UMBC community at large to propose sessions and events during that week.
Deputy Assistant Secretary for Private Sector Exchange
Rebecca Pasini from the Department of State has accepted our invitation to host a session during
IEW.
Her session will take place on Thursday, November 16, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.. She will present on the Exchange Visitor Program

Become an Orientation Advisor!
Play an important role in the UMBC community!!
The Office for Academic & Pre-Professional Advising has openings available for Winter Orientation Advisors! Advisors meet with incoming students VIRTUALLY during the month of January in one-on-one sessions to plan out and register for classes. No previous experience is required, and we will provide all training necessary!
Besides compensation, this is a rare chance for part-time faculty to gain advising experience, highly sought-after in faculty openings, as well as to interact with students outside of the classroom. As an adjunct faculty member myself, I can absolutely say that my teaching effectiveness has been augmented by my advising experience.
Advising will be offered over the course of several days throughout the month of January. Upon hire, you will be given the opportunity to select which days you are available to advise. Full-time faculty, and part-time faculty are eligible to be compensated at the rate of $100 per afternoon session and $50 per evening or morning session; full-time faculty are compensated through a budget transfer to their departments.
We are offering informational sessions for anyone interested or who even just MIGHT be interested in finding out about this exciting opportunity to expand their skillsets, make meaningful connections, serve their departments, and get paid!
