Tell us about yourself!
I’m a sophomore, computer science major with a game
development pathway. I work in the MASTC and I tutor CMSC 201-203, MATH
151-152, and PHYS 121
Tell us what else you do on campus.
I work for the honors college council and I’m the public
relations chair. I advertise events for the honors college.
Why did you get involved with the Academic Success Center?
I would go there a lot for tutoring when I first started
here and I realized it’s really helpful. Since I hung out there all the time,
someone assumed I was a tutor. I helped them out and then I realized “hey! I
can do this!”
Why do you love your job?
I love when students come back to me and tell me that they
now understand something and they’ve succeeded in their class. I had a student
message me and thank me for helping them in Physics! I like the feeling that
I’m actually helping people achieve what they want.
Ideal pizza and why?
I have two. I love Magherita because it has those rich
flavors and textures! I also like everything veggie pizza! I don’t hate meat,
but I feel like it’s got that crunch factor and that taste on everything.

Tell us about yourself!
I am a math major, senior, and I tutor most math classes in Math Science Tutoring Center.
What else do you do on campus?
I’ve also been a TA for the math department for about 4 years.
Why did you get involved with the Academic Success Center?
My very first semester, I got involved with some study groups for my class and then I realized that I really enjoyed helping people get up to speed and let it click for them. Also my professor recommended me to do it.
Why do you love your job
I love when the students get it, you know? You can see the little switch go in their brain. I also love hearing the success stories and that they get it or they passed the class. I love the relationships I build with people who return to the MASTC and how we get to see them throughout the semester.
Ideal pizza and why?
BBQ chicken pizza because marinara sauce is overrated.

SI PASS sessions can help you improve your understanding of concepts, develop study strategies, and practice and prepare for exams.
Sessions will be offered at their previously scheduled times through the Blackboard section of your course. You can access it by going into your Blackboard section and clicking the link for the online collaborate session.
SI PASS is a great resource for helping you extend beyond the classroom and a great way to work with others to achieve academic success.

I hope everyone is in good spirits and taking care of themselves as we navigate this new realm of online learning. In the interest of social distancing, all of the Academic Success Center’s services are now online, including tutoring!
Appointment Tutoring, Math and Science Center Tutoring, and Writing Center tutoring are all available online through appointment.
Booking an appointment is easy!
- Go to umbc.go-redrock.com and log in.
- Under “search availability,” choose the type of tutoring that works for you:
- Appointments must be requested up to 30 minutes in advance
- Appointments must be requested up to 24 hours in advance
- Writing Center: For all writing assignments at UMBC.
***Can’t find your class? Be sure to check both subject tutoring schedules**
- Pick the course you would like to be tutored in and choose an available time slot that works for you.
- Finalize the appointment and check your email for confirmation.
- Your tutor will email you 5-10 minutes before the session with a link to collaborate on a tutoring platform.

The Learning Resources Center is your one-stop shop for academic support for many undergraduate courses at UMBC. Papers got you down? Visit The Writing Center! Need help with Math? Visit our Math Lab (now located on the first floor of the library, right next to our Writing Center). Need help with any other course? Sign up for weekly Appointment Tutoring through our website!
Before you begin your quest for academic excellence, let’s cover a few of the basics with a handy FAQ about Appointment Tutoring.
“How do I get a tutor?”
Sign up online through our website! Because it’s a Google form, make sure you log into myUMBC and check your mail, which will in turn sign you into your UMBC google account. Our form is UMBC exclusive, meaning that you will not be able to see it unless you are signed into your UMBC google account.
“How does tutoring work?”
After you sign up for tutoring, you will receive a weekly (yes, weekly) appointment with one of our trained peer tutors. Our appointment tutoring is small group, meaning that no more than 3 other people will be tutored with you at the same time.
“What should I bring to my weekly session?”
Bring your textbooks, your questions, and a willingness to learn! Our tutors are here to help you, but they can’t if you’re not prepared for an active learning session.
“I don’t want to commit to weekly tutoring. Can’t I just come in right before I have a test or a final?”
Unfortunately, no. The purpose of LRC tutoring is to help you learn the material, not cram for a test. We want you to be successful, not just in one class but all of your classes as well. The best way to do that is to learn the material now and work through it with consistent support.

Good Morning, Retrievers!
If you are reading this message, then congrats! You have officially survived the first week of the Fall Semester. You have braved syllabus day. You've done your first homework. And slowly, but surely, you are preparing for your next test.
And what better way to prepare than with tutoring through the Learning Resources Center!
The Learning Resources Center is your one-stop shop for academic support for many undergraduate courses at UMBC. Papers got you down? Visit The Writing Center! Need help with Math? Visit our Math Lab (now located on the first floor of the library, right next to our Writing Center). Need help with any other course? Sign up for weekly Appointment Tutoring through our website!
Before you begin your quest for academic excellence, let’s cover a few of the basics with a handy FAQ about Appointment Tutoring.
“How do I get a tutor?”
Sign up online through our website! Because it’s a Google form, make sure you log into myUMBC and check your mail, which will in turn sign you into your UMBC google account. Our form is UMBC exclusive, meaning that you will not be able to see it unless you are signed into your UMBC google account.
“How does tutoring work?”
After you sign up for tutoring, you will receive a weekly (yes, weekly) appointment with one of our trained peer tutors. Our appointment tutoring is small group, meaning that no more than 3 other people will be tutored with you at the same time.
“What should I bring to my weekly session?”
Bring your textbooks, your questions, and a willingness to learn! Our tutors are here to help you, but they can’t if you’re not prepared for an active learning session.
“I don’t want to commit to weekly tutoring. Can’t I just come in right before I have a test or a final?”
Unfortunately, no. The purpose of LRC tutoring is to help you learn the material, not cram for a test. We want you to be successful, not just in one class but all of your classes as well. The best way to do that is to learn the material now and work through it with consistent support.

The END (of Spring) is NIGH! Summer Tutoring is coming!
Last day of tutoring is May 12th! Summer tutoring available!
Hi Retrievers! It's official! The end of the semester is so close, we can taste it! And as the semester ends, unfortunately, tutoring must end as well.
The Math Lab and the Writing Center will close on the last day of classes (tomorrow) at 1 p.m.! So if you haven't stopped by yet, now is the time to visit!
For all you lucky people taking Summer classes, there will be walk-in Summer tutoring. The Writing Center and the Math Lab will be fully operational! Soon, our website will be updated with specific times and courses offered.
Some of the summer course offerings will include:
- BIOL 141
- BIOL 142
- BIOL 303
- CHEM 101
- CHEM 102
- PHYS 111
- PHYS 112
- PHYS 121
We will also have Supplemental Instruction for BIOL 302, CHEM 123, MATH 106, MATH 150, PHYS 121, and PHYS 122.
